Hello and Happy Practicing

I’m Kinsey. Like many kids my music journey started when my mom made me take piano lessons. For me those piano lessons grew into a passion that eventually lead me start my own lesson business. It’s a long story told in the shortest way possible, but here I am. Why the blog? I want to share my experience. What’s the point? To be helpful. Who is this for? Anyone who’s interested in learning an instrument. Let me explain.

I wanted an informal way of sharing my what I learned as a musician and I thought a blog would be perfect for me. This platform also allows me to create a conversation, answer questions, and reach a larger audience of music students than I could do with my lesson business alone. My experience as a private music instructor has given me insights into many aspects of experiencing and learning music. Everyone’s interests in music, confidence in performing, and learning style is unique, but many students share the same difficulties.

I have learned a lot of different ways to look at the same problem and that may be helpful to someone. I don’t think or expect that this blog will be a save all to everyone who is learning an instrument. My aim is to help people get started, that may be needing resources to start learning the instrument of their choice or tips to get over a learning obstacle like eighth notes (you’ll see what I mean when you get there). I may bring up my lessons or suggest bring in a teacher, but there is nothing wrong with a self taught musician and I have no intention of continuously pushing lessons. I just want people to play music.

This blog is for those that are curious about playing an instruments and/or those that were given an instrument for one reason or another and don’t know what to do next. Sometimes a nudge is needed, a little push, a shoulder angel/devil saying “Yes! Do it! Buy the thing and try it out!” and thats what i am here for. This blog is might be for you if you’re still reading. If you are unsure or nervous about trying something new, let me know. Let me be your biggest fan and loudest cheerleader, because what I want is for you to enjoy music.

In the immortal words of Johann Sebastian Bach, “There’s really nothing to it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.”

Happy practicing and I’ll see you next time.
